Demonstrating Transition from Sail to Steam Power
19th Century Steam Auxiliary Fishing Trawler
Designed By Great Lakes Shipbuilder Creates Distinctly Regional Workboat
Great Lakes shipbuilder W.E. Redway didn’t achieve the fame of clipper ship builder Donald McKay, but he did provide us with some distinctly original boats and ships that have that “big lake” flavor.
These plans, from the University of Washington Freshwater and Marine Image Bank, are of a late 19th Century steam-powered auxiliary fishing trawler of about 80 feet in length, designed by Redway.
