Fishing Boat Shenandoah

One of the last Gig Harbor Purse Seiners

The purse seiner Shenandoah was launched in 1925, one of the early vessels in Gig Harbor’s commercial fishing fleet. She is now one of the last Gig Harbor-built purse seiners and one of only two vessels built by Skansie Ship Building Co. still in Gig Harbor. The Shenandoah was donated to the Harbor History Museum in 2000.[1]

[1] The Shenandoah recording project was co-sponsored by the Historic American Engineering Record (HAER), the Coastal Heritage Alliance (CHA), and the Harbor History Museum (HHM). The vessel was documented by Todd Croteau, HAER Maritime Program coordinator; Mike Vlahovich, CHA founding director, Shawn Janutz, Natalya Locke, and Anthony Vlahovich, CHA apprentices; Text was prepared by Vicki Blackwell, curator of the HHM. The Historic American Engineering Record is a project of the National Park Service. More information is available at the Library of Congress, HAER call number WA-178.
